The End of 1-10 West, Los Angeles, CA 2022. I-10 West, which traverses from the east coast of Florida to the West coast of California, dead ends into the Santa Monica Pier, stretching 2460 miles.

Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, CA. 2022. San Francisco was one of the first cities involved in the highway revolts of the 1960s and 70s. Original plans were for the highway to be built straight through this park, destroying a grove of old trees. Civic leader Sue Bierman led the campaign against the proposed highway and in March 1966 the Boards of Supervisors voted 6-5 against its construction.

The Embarcadero, San Francisco, CA. 2022. In the 1980s this waterfront route was a double stacked, elevated highway. It was severely damaged in a 1989 earthquake and later was removed. Today it stands as a testament to how much more a city can open when it has boulevards with walking paths, crosswalks and business lined streets.
